Q:
What is the purpose of the Coolant Temperature Sensor for Chevrolet Trailblazer? Posted by Customer
A:
The coolant temperature indicator system consists of a temperature gauge or warning light on the dashboard and a coolant temperature sensor on the engine. This sensor serves multiple purposes, acting as an information sensor for the fuel and emissions systems and as a sending unit for the temperature gauge. If an overheating indication occurs, it is important to first check the coolant level in the system and then ensure that the wiring between the gauge and the sensor is secure and all fuses are intact. Additionally, the operation of the coolant temperature sensor should be checked, and if it is found to be defective, it should be replaced. If the sensor is functioning properly, it may be necessary to have the temperature gauge checked using a scan tool to access the information processed by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).

Q:
How to Replace the Coolant Temperature Sensor on Chevrolet Corvette? Posted by Customer
A:
The coolant temperature indicator system in a vehicle consists of a warning light or temperature gauge on the dashboard and a coolant temperature sending unit mounted on the engine. In some models, the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor serves as both an information sensor for the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and as the coolant temperature sending unit for the temperature gauge. To replace the Engine Oil Temperature Sensor, the front of the vehicle should be raised and securely supported on jackstands. The electrical connector should be disconnected from the sensor, and then the sensor can be unscrewed from the adapter. During installation, it is important to use a new sealing washer and tighten the sensor to the specified torque.

Q:
What is the purpose of the coolant temperature indicator system and Coolant Temperature Sensor on Chevrolet Monte Carlo? Posted by Customer
A:
The coolant temperature indicator system is comprised of a temperature gauge, a warning light on the dashboard, and a sensor mounted on the engine. This system is responsible for monitoring the engine coolant temperature. The Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor plays a crucial role in this system as it provides a signal to both the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and Body Control Module (BCM), which in turn operate the temperature gauge. If an overheating condition occurs, it is important to first check the coolant level in the system and ensure that the coolant mixture is correct. If the temperature gauge does not move from the C position, it is recommended to inspect the wiring harness connections going to the instrument cluster. Additionally, if there is a problem with the ECT sensor, it is likely that the Check Engine light will illuminate, indicating the need for sensor replacement or circuit repair.

Q:
How do I remove the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor on Chevrolet Tahoe? Posted by Customer
A:
Drain the cooling system to a level that's below the level of the ECT sensor. Disconnect the electrical connector from the ECT sensor. Unscrew and remove the ECT sensor. If you're installing the old sensor, wrap the threads of the new ECT sensor with Teflon tape. The threads of a new sensor should already be coated with sealant. Installation is the reverse of removal. Be sure to tighten the ECT sensor to the torque specifications. Refill the cooling system.

Q:
What is the coolant temperature indicator system and Coolant Temperature Sensor and how does it work on Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Yukon? Posted by Customer
A:
The coolant temperature indicator system is composed of a temperature gauge mounted in the dash and a coolant temperature sensor (also known as the Coolant Temperature Sensor mounted on the engine. This coolant temperature sensor doubles as an information sensor for the fuel and emissions systems. If an overheating indication occurs, the coolant level in the system should be checked. The operation of the coolant temperature sensor (Coolant Temperature Gauge Sending Unit) should also be checked. If the sensor (Coolant Temperature Gauge Sending Unit) is defective, it should be replaced with a new one. If the coolant temperature sensor (Coolant Temperature Gauge Sending Unit) is good, the temperature gauge should be checked by a dealer service department. This test will require a scan tool to access the information as it is processed by the onboard computer.

Q:
How does the Coolant Temperature Sensor work For Saturn LS? Posted by Customer
A:
The coolant temperature indicator system includes a warning light or temperature gauge on the dashboard and a coolant temperature sending unit on the engine. In some models, the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor also functions as the coolant temperature sending unit. If there is an overheating indication, it is important to check the coolant level and ensure that all connectors in the wiring harness between the sending unit and the indicator light or gauge are securely connected. When the ignition switch is turned to START and the starter motor is running, the indicator light should come on, indicating that the bulb is functioning properly. If the light does not come on, it could be due to a burned-out bulb, a faulty ignition switch, or an open circuit. Once the engine starts, the indicator light should go out and remain off, unless the engine overheats. If the light does not go out, it could be due to a grounded wire between the sending unit and the light, a defective sending unit, or a faulty ignition switch. It is also important to check the coolant to ensure it is correctly mixed, as plain water or coolant with a high water content may have a low boiling point and not activate the sending unit.

Q:
How do you remove the ECT sensor on Saturn ION? Posted by Customer
A:
Turn the ignition key to OFF. Drain the cooling system. It's not necessary to fully drain the coolant, but it must be drained to a level that's below the level of the ECT sensor. Disconnect the electrical connector from the ECT sensor, which is located at the right front (passenger's side) corner of the cylinder head on 2.0L supercharged engines, near the valve cover. On 2.2L and 2.4L engines, the sensor is located in the thermostat housing, between the two heater hose pipes. On 2008 and later 2.0L turbocharged engines, the sensor is located at the left rear of the cylinder head (driver's side). You may need to unbolt the under-hood fuse and relay center, moving it aside for access. Unscrew the ECT sensor and remove it. Wrap the threads of the ECT sensor with Teflon tape. Installation is the reverse of removal. Be sure to tighten the ECT sensor to the torque specifications. Refill the cooling system when you're done.
