- A:To disconnect the instrument cluster on 1988 through 1994 models, follow these steps: Disconnect the negative cable at the battery. Remove the radio control module and the heater control unit. Remove the screws retaining the instrument cluster trim panel and remove the panel. Remove the cluster retaining screw located behind the radio control module. Remove the center panel from the lower dash. Remove the shift indicator cable from the steering column shroud. Disconnect the wiring harness by carefully pulling the instrument cluster forward. Remove the cluster. Note: The instrument cluster and housing should not be separated due to the risk of static electricity damaging the computer chips within the cluster.
