Q:
How to Remove the Alternator on Chevrolet Avalanche,Silverado,Suburban,Tahoe,GMC Sierra,Yukon,Yukon Denali and Yukon XL? Posted by Customer
A:
To remove the alternator on a V6 model, start by disconnecting the cable from the negative battery terminal and removing the air intake duct and accessory drivebelt. Then, detach the clip for the engine wiring harness from the air conditioning compressor and condenser hose bracket and remove the bolt from the bracket that secures the air conditioning compressor and condenser hose. Unbolt the clamp that secures the heater outlet hose to the alternator mounting bracket, disconnect the electrical connector from the alternator, and peel back the weather boot from the B+ terminal to remove the battery cable from the alternator. Finally, remove the alternator mounting bolts and push aside the heater outlet hose and air conditioning compressor and condenser hoses to remove the alternator. The installation process is simply the reverse of removal. For a V8 model, the process is similar, but instead of detaching the clip and bolt for the air conditioning compressor and condenser hose bracket, you simply peel back the weather boot from the B+ terminal and disconnect the battery cable from the alternator. Then, remove the electrical connector and two alternator mounting bolts before removing the alternator. The installation process is again the reverse of removal, with a reminder to tighten the alternator mounting bolts securely.

Q:
What steps should be followed for the engine for the 2012 GMC Canyon? Posted by Customer
A:
Disconnect the wiring from the alternator and move the wiring harnesses out of the way. If replacing the alternator, take the old one when purchasing a replacement unit. Ensure the new/rebuilt unit looks identical to the old alternator, with the same number, size, and location of terminals. Check the identification numbers stamped into the housing to ensure they match. If the new/rebuilt alternator does not have a pulley installed, switch the pulley from the old unit to the new/rebuilt one. Some shops may perform this service free of charge.
