To remove the air conditioning system, start by discharging it and disconnecting the cable from the negative battery terminal. Then, open the hood and locate the evaporator line connection on the passenger's side of the engine compartment. Remove the mounting bolt and separate the lines, replacing the O-ring with a new one. The A/C orifice tube, which has a fixed-diameter orifice and mesh filters at each end, can be found inside the line leading to the evaporator. Use needle-nose pliers to remove it. The orifice tube is responsible for metering the refrigerant and changing it from a high-pressure liquid to a low-pressure gas. It can be reused if the screens are not plugged, torn, or the plastic housing over the screen is intact, and the brass orifice inside the housing is unrestricted. For installation, insert the orifice tube with the shorter end in first, towards the evaporator, and always replace the O-ring with a new one. Finally, have the system evacuated, recharged, and leak tested.
