For the removal and installation of steering wheels in various Cadillac models, follow these steps: To begin, disable the Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) system by disconnecting the negative battery cable, turning the ignition off, and removing the specified SIR fuse based on the model year. Remove the sound insulator as required. Proceed to remove the inflator module by removing the bolts/screws from the back of the steering wheel and disconnecting electrical connectors. When handling a live inflator module, ensure it is positioned safely to minimize the risk of accidental deployment. Remove the steering column shaft nut and mark the alignment if necessary. Use a steering wheel puller to remove the steering wheel. For installation, feed the SIR coil assembly lead through the slot in the steering wheel, align the marks on the steering wheel and shaft, and tighten the shaft nut. Install the horn contact, attach electrical connectors to the inflator module, and secure the inflator module with bolts/screws. Re-enable the SIR system by reconnecting the electrical components, installing the SIR fuse, connecting the negative battery cable, and checking the SIR indicator light for proper function. For late-model Seville models, additional special tools may be required for the process. To remove the steering wheel, disable the SIR system, loosen the screws from the back of the steering wheel, remove the inflatable restraint steering wheel module, disconnect the horn contact, unplug connectors, and use a steering wheel puller. To install the steering wheel, feed the coil assembly lead, attach the steering wheel to the column shaft, tighten the shaft nut, attach the horn contact, connect electrical components, secure the inflator module, and re-enable the SIR system.
