- A:To remove the electric shift motor/4WD actuator assembly from a vehicle's transfer case, first raise the vehicle and place it securely on jackstands. Then, remove the stone shields from below the transfer case and unplug the shift motor electrical connector. Unscrew the retaining bolts and remove the assembly. To install, inspect the seal for damage and replace if necessary. Position the gasket and 4WD actuator in place on the transfer case and install the bolts, tightening them to the specified torque. Then, disconnect the electrical connector from the 4WD actuator and unscrew the actuator from the axle tube.
