How to remove and install Clutch Disc,Pressure Plate and Release Bearing? Posted by Customer
A:
Accessing the clutch components typically involves removing the transaxle while leaving the engine in place, except when the engine undergoes a major overhaul. In such cases, it's advisable to inspect and replace worn clutch components due to their relatively low cost compared to the labor-intensive access process. To proceed with the engine in place, begin by removing the release cylinder without disconnecting the hose. Next, extract the transaxle from the vehicle, ensuring engine support during removal, either with an engine hoist or a jack under the engine, using a piece of wood to distribute the load. Retain the release fork and release bearing on the transaxle for now. To facilitate clutch disc removal, insert a clutch alignment tool through the disc hub. Carefully examine the flywheel and pressure plate for indexing marks; if absent, create scribe marks to ensure alignment during reinstallation. Loosen the pressure plate-to-flywheel bolts gradually in a diagonal pattern to release spring pressure, then remove the bolts, followed by the pressure plate and clutch disc. During inspection, assess the flywheel for damage and, if slight imperfections exist, consider resurfacing by a machine shop. Inspect the clutch disc lining for adequate thickness, rivet condition, and signs of damage, replacing it if any doubts arise. Replace the release bearing alongside the clutch disc. Inspect the pressure plate's machined surface and diaphragm spring fingers for damage, replacing the assembly if necessary; minor glazing can be removed with emery cloth. When a new pressure plate is indicated, factory-rebuilt units are available. For installation, ensure clean, oil-free surfaces on the flywheel, pressure plate, and clutch disc, handling them with clean hands. Properly position the clutch disc and pressure plate using an alignment tool, then finger-tighten the pressure plate-to-flywheel bolts, working around the pressure plate. Center the clutch disc with the alignment tool and tighten the bolts gradually in a criss-cross pattern to the specified torque. Remove the alignment tool, lubricate the release bearing's inner groove and release lever contact areas with high-temperature grease, and place grease on the transaxle input-shaft bearing retainer. Proceed to install the clutch release bearing, transaxle, release cylinder, and all previously removed components, securing all fasteners to the recommended torque specifications.

Q:
How to remove and replace a clutch release bearing and Clutch Fork? Posted by Customer
A:
Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Remove the transaxle. Remove the clutch fork from the ball stud by pulling on the retention spring, then remove the bearing and the lever. Hold the bearing by the outer race and rotate the inner race while applying pressure. If the bearing doesn't turn smoothly or if it's noisy, replace the bearing/hub assembly with a new one. Wipe the bearing with a clean rag and inspect it for damage, wear, and cracks. Don't immerse the bearing in solvent-it's sealed for life and to do so would ruin it. Also, check the clutch fork for cracks and bends. Fill the inner groove of the release bearing with high-temperature grease. Also, apply a light coat of the same grease to the transaxle input shaft splines and the front bearing retainer. Lubricate the clutch fork ball socket, lever ends, and release cylinder pushrod socket with high-temperature grease. Attach the release bearing to the clutch fork. On models that use a retaining clip, make sure it engages properly with the lever. Slide the release bearing onto the transaxle input shaft front bearing retainer while passing the end of the clutch fork through the opening in the clutch housing. Push the clutch fork onto the ball stud until it's firmly seated. Apply a light coat of high-temperature grease to the face of the release bearing where it contacts the pressure plate diaphragm fingers. The remainder of the installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
