- Q:How do you remove the wheel cylinder? Posted by Customer
- A:To remove the wheel cylinder, start by blocking the front wheels to prevent the vehicle from rolling. Then, loosen the rear wheel lug nuts and raise the rear of the vehicle, supporting it securely on jackstands. Remove the wheel and release the parking brake before taking off the brake drum. Next, remove the brake shoes and clean any dirt or foreign material from around the wheel cylinder. Unscrew the brake line fitting at the rear of the backing plate, being careful not to pull the brake line away from the wheel cylinder. Remove the wheel cylinder bleeder screw and its cap, followed by the wheel cylinder mounting bolts. Detach the wheel cylinder from the backing plate. To install the wheel cylinder, place it in position and connect the brake line fitting finger tight. Install the wheel cylinder mounting bolts and tighten them to the specified torque. Then, tighten the brake line fitting securely and install the bleeder screw and cap. Proceed to install the brake shoes and the brake drum on the hub flange. Finally, install the wheel and lug nuts, bleed the brake system, lower the vehicle to the ground, and tighten the lug nuts to the specified torque. Before driving the vehicle in traffic, carefully check the operation of the brakes.Posted by GMPartsGiant Specialist
