Q:
How to remove and install Door Handle,Door Latch Assembly and Door Lock Cylinder for Chevrolet Cobalt,HHR and Saturn ION? Posted by Customer
A:
To work on the front door, start by raising the window and then removing the door trim panel and watershield. For Cobalt/GS and ION models, disconnect the rod from the latch mechanism to the outside door handle and any electrical connectors from the Door latch assembly, if applicable. Remove the latch mounting bolts and the inside handle retaining screw on ION models, and take out the handle, cable/rods, and latch as an assembly from the door. For lock cylinder and outer door handle replacement, follow specific steps for each model type. On Cobalt/GS models, remove the bolt securing the front of the handle from inside the door, then disconnect the lock cylinder rod and remove the lock cylinder mounting screws. On ION models, disconnect the lock cylinder rod and remove the lock cylinder from the door. For outer door handle replacement, lift up the handle and remove the plastic pushpin, then push the door handle towards the front of the vehicle to remove it from the pivot assembly in the door. For HHR models, remove the trim cap for the outside handle retaining screw, remove the screw, pull the door handle outwards, and remove the handle cover. To disengage the outside door handle lever from the handle reinforcement inside the door, pull it out of the door and to the rear. Inspect and replace the outside door handle seals if necessary. For the inside door handle, disconnect the actuator cable and reverse the removal procedure. For the door latch or outside door handle reinforcement, remove the outside door handle, reinforcement exterior retaining screw, and the latch mounting fasteners. Pull out the latch and rods from the door as a single assembly, disconnecting the rods and electrical connector if not done earlier. On a clean workbench, disconnect the outside handle and lock cylinder actuator rods from the latch or from the outside door handle reinforcement. Installation is the reverse of removal. To remove the door lock cylinder, first remove the door latch and outside door handle reinforcement, then slide the locking clip outwards and remove the lock cylinder. Remove the clip and rod arm from the lock cylinder. When installing the lock cylinder, push it all the way into the outside door handle reinforcement until it clicks into place, then install the locking clip. Installation is otherwise the reverse of removal. For the rear doors (all models), follow similar procedures as listed for the front doors, including removing the door trim panel and watershield, disconnecting the outside door handle, and addressing specific steps for lock cylinder, outer door handle, and inside door handle replacement. For coupe models with smaller "rear seat access" doors, the replacement steps are different and involve removing the handle and latches, both upper and lower, depending on the location, then reinstalling them in reverse order.

Q:
What is the recommended maintenance schedule for lubricating hinges, latch assemblies, and locks on doors, hood, and trunk for Chevrolet Cobalt,HHR and Saturn ION? Posted by Customer
A:
Once every 3,000 miles, or every three months, the hinges and latch assemblies on the doors, hood and trunk should be given a few drops of light oil or lock lubricant. The door latch strikers should also be lubricated with a thin coat of grease to reduce wear and ensure free movement. Lubricate the door and trunk locks with spray-on graphite lubricant.

Next, rotate the plastic retaining clips off the control rods and detach the rods from the handle. After that, remove the latch mounting bolts and withdraw the latch from the end of the tailgate. If equipped, detach any linkage to the lock cylinder. To reinstall, simply reverse the removal steps and tighten all fasteners securely.

Q:
How Is the Power Door Lock Diagnosed and Maintained in Buick Enclave,Chevrolet Traverse and GMC Acadia? Posted by Customer
A:
The power door lock system operates using door lock actuators mounted in each door and includes switches, actuators, lock and unlock relays, the Body Control Module (BCM), and associated wiring. Diagnosis usually involves simple checks of wiring connections and actuators for minor faults. The system utilizes bi-directional solenoids in the doors, mounted as part of the door latch. Lock switches have Lock and Unlock positions, sending signals to the BCM, which activates the door lock relays, providing voltage to each door lock solenoid. To troubleshoot, check circuit protection first, including fuses and circuit breakers. Verify voltage at the switches and check for continuity; if necessary, replace faulty switches. Check the wiring between the switches, BCM, door lock relay, and solenoid if needed. In case of an inoperative solenoid, test for voltage and ground, check for breaks in the wiring, and replace the solenoid if necessary. Communication for the power door lock system passes through the Body Control Module, and if the issue remains unresolved, retrieve trouble codes from the BCM using a scan tool. The keyless entry system uses a remote control transmitter sending an infrared signal to the receiver to operate the door lock system. Replace the battery when the transmitter's range decreases. To replace the key remote control battery, carefully separate the case halves, replace the battery, and snap the case back together. Programming replacement transmitters requires a specialized scan tool, so take the vehicle and transmitters to a dealer or qualified repair shop with the necessary tool to have the transmitter(s) programmed into the vehicle. Up to eight key fobs can be programmed to one car, and all fobs must be present during reprogramming.

A:
Replace the battery in the key remote control. To do this, carefully separate the case halves, replace the battery, and snap the case back together.
