    Q:
How to remove the Brake Disc on Chevrolet Camaro? Posted by Customer
    A:
To inspect the brakes, start by loosening the wheel lug nuts and raising the vehicle on jackstands. Remove the brake caliper, suspending it out of the way with wire. Inspect the disc surface for score marks and damage, and check for disc runout using a dial indicator. If necessary, refinish the disc or remove glaze with emery cloth. Make sure not to machine the disc below the specified minimum thickness. For removal, remove the caliper mounting bracket or caliper and the disc retaining screw. When installing, wire-brush the backside of the disc and clean the hub lace. Apply high-temperature anti-seize and install the disc, tightening the retaining screw. Install the caliper and mounting bracket, then lower the vehicle and tighten the lug nuts. Depress the brake pedal to bring the pads into contact with the disc and check the brakes before driving.

    Q:
How to inspect the brake disc on Chevrolet Equinox? Posted by Customer
    A:
To inspect the brake disc, start by loosening the wheel lug nuts and raising the vehicle on jackstands. Remove the wheel and then the brake caliper, making sure not to disconnect the brake hose. Suspend the caliper out of the way with wire, avoiding any strain on the hose. Reinstall three lug nuts (inverted) to hold the disc against the hub, using washers if necessary. Visually inspect the disc surface for score marks, cracks, and other damage. Light scratches and shallow grooves are normal, but deep score marks or cracks may require disc refinishing or replacement. Check both sides of the disc and look for pulsation or loud grinding noises during brake application, which may indicate damaged or worn discs. To check disc runout, place a dial indicator about 1/2-inch from the outer edge of the disc and turn it. If the indicator reading exceeds 0.003 of an inch, disc refinishing or replacement is needed. Ensure the disc is not machined to a thickness less than the specified minimum refinish thickness, which can be checked with a micrometer. For removal, remove the caliper mounting bracket, cleaning the bolt threads and holes and applying new thread-locking compound during installation. Mark the disc in relation to the hub, remove the bolt securing the disc to the hub flange, and use a mallet if necessary to loosen the disc. Clean the hub flange and inside of the brake disc, removing any rust or corrosion, and then securely tighten the retaining bolt when installing the disc onto the hub assembly. To install, first install the caliper mounting bracket and tighten the bolts to the specified torque. Place the caliper over the disc and onto the mounting bracket, installing and tightening the caliper mounting bolts to the specified torque. Install the wheel, lower the vehicle, and tighten the wheel lug nuts to the specified torque. Depress the brake pedal a few times to bring the brake pads into contact with the disc. Bleeding the system is not necessary unless the brake hose was disconnected. Thoroughly check the brake operation before putting the vehicle into normal service.

    Q:
How to inspect the brake disc on GMC Terrain? Posted by Customer
    A:
Before you remove the wheel, first loosen the wheel lug nuts, lift the vehicle, and use jackstands to hold it stable while you work. Keep the brake caliper hanging, but maintain the hose connection. Tie the caliper up with some wire to protect the hose from strain. Match and tighten the three inverted lug nuts to keep the disc in place and contact the hub. Add washers to achieve the best fit. Look at the brake disc surface to see if there are scratches, cracks, or other trouble spots. Small surface scratches are fine, but deep damage marks or cracks may mean you need to fix or replace the disc. When you press the brake pedal after fixing the disc, look for any vibration or kicking back. If you feel the disc move during that time, it could mean the disc isn't turning straight, resulting in shaky brake pedal action and grinding brake pad sounds. Use the disc-dial to check for runout: put the dial just 1/2-inch from the disc edge (set at zero), and when the readings go over 0.003 inches, the disc needs refreshing or changing. Before grinding, make sure you keep the disc at or above its minimum refinish thickness, found on the disc. Also check its thickness with a micrometer. Make sure to clean all bolts and holes in the caliper mounting bracket. Then apply strong thread-locking glue when reinstalling. Pinpoint where the disc fits on the hub, take out the bolt holding it, and when the bolt won't budge, hit it with a mallet to ease it out. Before using the brake disc, scrub both the hub attachment flange and disc's interior surface with a cleaning tool. After aligning the disc with the hub parts, tighten the bolt that holds them together. Fix the caliper mount bracket securely, according to the desired torque, before putting the caliper over the disc. After that, tighten the installation bolts to their recommended torque value. To finish, put on the tire, pull down your car, tighten the wheel nuts to the right force, and press your brake pedal many times to allow the brake pads to touch the disc. Make sure all brake operations are working correctly before driving as normal.
