A:
The ECT sensor is located on the front bank cylinder head, near the engine oil dipstick, just below the valve cover. To start, remove the engine cover. Next, drain the engine coolant to a point lower than that of the sensor. Then, disconnect the electrical connector from the ECT sensor, which is located on the front cylinder head near the engine oil dipstick and is covered by a protective shield. Unscrew and remove the ECT sensor. Before installing the ECT sensor, apply some sealant to the threads. Installation is the reverse of removal. Finally, refill the cooling system.

Q:
How do you remove the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor on Chevrolet Equinox,GMC Terrain and Pontiac Torrent? Posted by Customer
A:
To remove the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor, start by removing the engine cover. If you choose not to drain the coolant, be prepared for some coolant to leak out when removing the sensor, so it's best to install the new sensor quickly. Disconnect the electrical connector from the ECT sensor, which is located at the front of the engine on the side of the engine block for 3.0L and 3.6L V6 models, and below the exhaust manifold towards the end of the engine for 2.4L four-cylinder models. Use a wrench to unscrew the ECT sensor, as most deep sockets won't fit over it. When installing the new ECT sensor, apply some sealant to the threads. Finally, reinstall the engine cover and refill the cooling system, or check the coolant level and add more if necessary if you didn't drain the coolant.
