How to adjust and replace the Neutral Safety Switch on Chevrolet C1500? Posted by Customer
    A:
To adjust the shift lever switch for 1994 and earlier models, place the car in neutral (N) and move the switch housing all the way to the right towards low (L) gear position, then shift it into park (P) for proper adjustment. To replace it, place selector lever in neutral, unplug electrical connectors, spread tangs on housing and remove switch. Line up the actuator on the switch and hole in shift tube; then get rear part of switch situated into cutout of lower jacket while pushing down front until two tangs go under; and finally move shift lever to park. Connect electrical connectors. In order to replace or adjust this switch on 1995 or newer models firmly apply parking brake then put selector in neutral position. Pry cable off trans shift lever ball stud, take nut off holding shifter on shaft, remove lever. Disconnect electrical connector, remove mounting bolts and slide off the switch from shaft. If necessary lightly file end of shaft. When installing a new switch with shaft still at neutral align flats of the switch with flats on shaft and lower it onto it before putting in bolts. Adjust its alignment by moving as required. Reinstalling shift lever and cable, checking starting in park and neutral first then further adjusting if necessary by slackening mount bolts a bit while turning the switch so that it works properly.

    Q:
How to check and replace the Neutral Safety Switch on Chevrolet Blazer? Posted by Customer
    A:
As of 1995 models, this switch makes sure your engine can only start when you have it either in Park or Neutral. Additionally, it completes the circuit connecting your backup lights when you switch to Reverse. When you start the engine and it's not in Park or Neutral, the switch that controls this needs either readjusting or replacing. Glue the safety stand under the car and disconnect the power wire from the control switch. When the key is off, look for current flowing between the switch terminals: there should be connection when the shift lever is in Park or Neutral and no connection in other positions, except for connection to the back-up lights while Reverse is chosen. When the switch shows problems, adjust it first and try again. If the switch keeps failing tests, you must replace it. Before taking off the shift control switch, apply the parking brake and put the transmission into neutral. Cut power from the vehicle, lift it onto jack stands, disconnect the battery's negative end, remove the shaft nut, unplug the electrical connection, unscrew the mounting bolts, and pull the switch off the shaft using care. To put the switch in, follow the manufacturer's guide to adjust it with their special tool. Make sure the detents match the tool's points and the locator pin is right where it should be. Before putting the switch on the shaft, clean away any rough edges and smooth them with a file. Then center the switch's flat sides over the shaft's flat sides, place it on, and slide until the mounting bracket's bottom touches the transmission ears. After putting the switch mounting bolts on and tightening them to their needed force, take out the tool for adjustments, and you're done with the installation. Turn everything back around to cut it all loose like you did at the beginning, except fasten the handle's holding nut to the correct tightness.

    Q:
What is the purpose of the neutral safety switch used on Chevrolet K1500? Posted by Customer
    A:
Either a clutch interlock switch (manual transmission-equipped models) or a neutral safety switch (automatic transmission equipped models) is used for the neutral safety switch on these models. The engine won't crank if it's fitted with a clutch interlock switch unless the clutch is pressed. An engine with neutral safety switch can not be cranked unless the gear selector is in either park or neutral. In case of an automatic transmission vehicle, try to start it up while changing gears. It should only crank in either neutral or park. If however it starts when on any other gear then its' neutral safety switch might be faulty or need adjustment. When this happens, locate and place the shift lever in "neutral" if your car has a manual transmission. The engine will only crank when the pedal is depressed. If it cranks before you press down the pedal, this switch located near the top of the clutch pedal arm may be defective. For automatic transmissions make sure that the steering column lock allows the key to go into Lock position only when shifter lever is put on Park position. The ignition key should come out only in Lock position.

How to check and replace Camshaft Position Sensor,Coolant Temperature Sensor,Crankshaft Position Sensor,Intake Manifold Temperature Sensor,Knock Sensor,Oxygen Sensor,Vehicle Speed Sensor,Neutral Safety Switch,MAP Sensor and Throttle Position Sensor on GMC Sonoma? Posted by Customer
    A:
Various engine sensors and components have checking procedures, the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor is a thermistor that changes resistance with temperature, and a failure in the circuit can cause trouble codes. The resistance should be measured when cold and warm while ensuring reference voltage from PCM is around 5.0 volts for the verification. Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) Sensor monitors changes in intake manifold pressure then varies its voltage output accordingly. Look at the reference voltage and signal voltage with the ignition on and engine off, and observe voltage changes as the engine's vacuum changes. Intake Air Temperature (IAT) Sensor acts as a thermistor where you can measure its resistance at different temperatures to make sure it changes as expected. Also, use a scan tool to monitor the IAT sensor for performance. The oxygen sensor in exhaust detects oxygen content which you can check its millivolt signal while warming up your engine. Check whether the oxygen sensor heater has correct voltage or not. Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) provides speed data to PCM which can be checked for reference voltage. Depending on the type of engine, Camshaft Sensor and Crankshaft Sensor should be checked for resistance and proper signal output. Finally, Knock Sensors detect engine knock which should be checked for reference voltage and resistance. If any component fails these checks, replacement may be necessary.

How to remove and install the Neutral Safety Switch on Saturn LS1? Posted by Customer
    A:
To turn off the TR switch, one has to engage the parking brake and move the shift lever to the NEUTRAL position. There should be a TR switch on top of the transaxle; then with the screwdriver or trim panel removal tool, prise the Heim joint off the TR switch lever by disconnecting the shift control cable from the TR switch lever. After that, unscrew the lock on the electrical connector of the TR switch and pull it off. Compact the TR switch lever nut by holding the lever with a large water pump pliers and then rotating the nut to become loose and then the lever is ejected. Then, if necessary, undo the TR switch mounting bolts to pull out the switch out of the transaxle. For installation, make sure the shift lever is still IN NEUTRAL, the flats on the transaxle shift shaft should engage the flats in the TR switch and just tighten the switch mounting bolts slightly. Position it using alignment fixture and then tighten switch mounting bolts to the torque specified by the company. At the end of the installation procedures, undo the process as explained above and tighten the TR switch lever nut by using water pump pliers in the right degree of torque.

How to adjust the Back Up Light Switch and Neutral Safety Switch on Pontiac Firebird? Posted by Customer
    A:
Remove the screws retaining the shift indicator plate to the console, then slide the plate up the shifter handle and secure it to the shifter knob with a rubber band. Position the shifter assembly in the Neutral notch in the detent plate, and loosen but do not remove the screws retaining the switch assembly to the shifter assembly. Rotate the switch assembly so that the service adjustment hole on the switch is aligned with the carrier tang hole, then insert a 3/32-inch drill bit as a gauge pin through the service adjustment hole to a depth of 19/32-inch. Tighten the switch assembly retaining screws, remove the gauge pin, and reinstall the shift indicator plate.

    Q:
How to identify and remove the Neutral Safety Switch for different transaxles on Saturn Vue? Posted by Customer
    A:
For transaxle identification, consult the "Vehicle Identification Numbers" section. The Park/Neutral Position (PNP) switch is sometimes referred to as such. To remove the switch, first place the shift lever in NEUTRAL. For the VT25-E transaxle, remove the battery and battery tray, pry the shift cable off the ballstud on the transaxle range switch using two screwdrivers, disconnect the electrical connectors, remove the control lever nut and lever, and then remove the two bolts to lift off the switch. For the AF33-5 transaxle, follow similar steps, ensuring to disconnect the electrical connector by pulling out the safety clip and releasing the retainer, then remove the shaft nut and washers while holding the lever with a wrench. For the 4T45-E transaxle, remove the battery and tray, disconnect the shift cable, squeeze the tabs on the cable sheath, remove the control lever nut and lever, disconnect the electrical connector, and lift off the switch. For the 5-AT transaxle, loosen the lug nuts, raise the vehicle, remove the left front wheel and inner fender splash shield, detach the cover from the transmission range switch, disconnect the wiring, remove the control lever nut and lever, bend the tabs of the lockwasher down, and lift off the switch. For installation of the VT25-E transaxle, ensure the transaxle is in Neutral, align the new switch with the shaft, install it while leaving the fasteners snug until verifying the engine starts only in Park and Neutral, then tighten the switch screws. For the AF33-5 transaxle, install the switch and hand-tighten the fasteners, ensuring the control shaft lever is in Neutral, and verify the engine starts only in Park and Neutral before tightening the screws. For the 4145-E transaxles, ensure both the transaxle and switch are in Neutral, align the new switch, and follow similar steps for verification and tightening. For the 5-AT transaxles, ensure both are in Neutral, snug the fasteners, align the lockwasher, install and tighten the shaft nut, and verify the engine starts only in Park or Neutral.
