- A:Relieve the system fuel pressure. Detach the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. Support the fuel tank with a transmission jack, a floor jack or a pair of jackstands. Unclip the lower shield from the right side of the tank and pull it down far enough to remove the fuel feed, return and vapor hoses. Loosen the filler neck hose clamp and detach the filler neck hose from the pipe on the tank. Remove the fuel tank support strap bolts and remove the support straps. Carefully lower the tank enough to disconnect the fuel pump lead, sending unit lead and ground wire. Remove the fuel tank from the vehicle.
