Remove the mounting fasteners that secure the solenoid to the shifter/bracket and keep hardware organized. 8. Withdraw the solenoid from the assembly, noting its orientation and any spacer/insulator positions to aid reinstallation. 9. Inspect the connector, wiring, and mounting surfaces for damage, corrosion, or dirt and clean as needed. Installation steps 1. Verify the replacement solenoid matches the removed unit in shape, connector type, and actuator orientation. 2. Position the solenoid in the same orientation as removed and engage any locating features or spacers. 3. Install mounting fasteners and snug them to secure the solenoid, avoiding over-tightening and following factory torque specs if available. 4. Reconnect shift linkage retainers or clips and confirm the linkage moves freely without binding. 5. Reattach the solenoid electrical connector until the locking tab clicks and ensure wiring is routed clear of moving parts and heat sources. 6. Reinstall any removed trim or console panels, making sure fasteners and clips are properly seated. 7. Reconnect the negative battery cable. 8. With the parking brake set, perform functional checks: place ignition to the run/accessory position as appropriate, press the brake pedal and verify the interlock releases so the shifter can be moved, then release the brake and confirm the interlock locks; repeat several times. 9. Recheck that all fasteners are secure, there are no abnormal noises, and no warning indicators are present. Repair tip: photograph component locations before disassembly and use a small dab of dielectric grease on electrical terminals if connectors are clean to help prevent future corrosion.
