It is important to periodically inspect the belt for wear, as it is prone to cracks, separation, fraying, and glazing. Both sides of the belt should be inspected, including the ribs on the underside, which should be even in depth. The tension of the belt is maintained by a spring-loaded tensioner assembly, which cannot be adjusted. The belt should be replaced when the indexing arrow aligns with the indexing mark on the tensioner assembly. To replace the belt, the air filter housing may need to be removed, and on V6 models, the engine may need to be supported and the right-side engine mount and bracket removed. A 3/8-inch drive ratchet or breaker bar can be inserted into the square hole in the tensioner to release belt tension. The old belt can then be removed, and the new belt can be installed by routing it over the pulleys and using the tensioner to allow for installation. If the tensioner needs to be replaced, the drivebelt must be removed, and depending on the model, the tensioner mounting bolt or bracket bolts may need to be removed.
