To perform an operating check on the brake system, start by depressing the brake pedal multiple times with the engine off to ensure there is no change in the pedal reserve distance. Then, depress the pedal and start the engine, checking if the pedal goes down slightly, indicating normal operation. For an airtightness check, start the engine and turn it off after a minute or two. Slowly depress the brake pedal several times, noting if the pedal goes down farther initially but gradually rises after subsequent depressions, indicating an airtight booster. Alternatively, depress the brake pedal while the engine is running and stop the engine with the pedal depressed. If there is no change in the pedal reserve travel after holding it for 30 seconds, the booster is airtight. If removal of the power unit is necessary, it is recommended to use special tools and seek professional assistance. However, if proceeding with removal, disconnect the electrical connector to the Brake Pedal Position (BPP) sensor, remove the booster pushrod retainer bolt and retaining clip, disconnect the pushrod from the brake pedal, and remove the cross brace and master cylinder if applicable. Disconnect the brake booster check valve and vacuum hose from the booster, then remove the brake booster mounting nuts from under the instrument panel. Guide the booster away from the firewall and out of the engine compartment. To install the booster, position it on the firewall until the studs are visible under the instrument panel. Tighten the booster mounting nuts to the specified torque, reinstall the master cylinder, and reconnect the vacuum hose and check valve to the booster. Connect the booster pushrod, retaining clip, and bolt to the brake pedal, ensuring the retainer bolt is tightened correctly. Complete the installation by reversing the removal steps, bleed the brake system, and thoroughly test the brake operation before normal use of the vehicle.
