    Q:
How to replace the ignition coil on Chevrolet Express? Posted by Customer
    A:
When removing the engine cover, disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. Remove the air intake duct or resonator from the throttle body if you need more room to work. Push the engine wiring harness aside to gain access to the ignition coil on 7.4L VB engines. For 4.3L V6 (2014 and earlier) and 5.0L, 5.7L and 7.4L V8 engines, disconnect the electrical connectors from the ignition coil and from the ignition control module and disconnect the high-tension cable from the coil high-tension terminal. The ignition coil, module and mounting bracket can be removed as a single assembly by undoing their bracket mounting bolts; this assembly should then be placed on a workbench. If you haven't already done so, remove the Ignition Control Driver (ICD) module or Ignition Control Module (ICM) from the mounting bracket. There are two rivets that attach it to the bracket, drill out their centers with an appropriate drill bit then use a punch to knock them out so as to separate it from there; after which attach using screws lightening up its content by getting it off of rivet fasteners! Remember, any new ignition coil comes with screws for attachment onto a bracket. Reattach the ignition module to the bracket where you had taken it off for replacement purposes only during installation otherwise your previous steps should be unaffected in this process thus marking its completion through reattaching back everything that was removed in reverse order of what took place between 1st step. Disconnect electrical connector from ignition coil being replaced for 4.BL, 5.3L, 6.LL V8 and also for later versions of 4.LV6 in case of replacement of all coils located on valve cover take off all these aforementioned nuts; lift out entire coil assembly by means of coil mounting brackets after having disconnected electrical connectors from each one which is the reverse of installation.
