To remove the brake master cylinder, start by locating it in the engine compartment and disconnecting the electrical connector from the brake fluid level switch. Then, loosen the fittings at the ends of the brake lines and plug the ends to prevent contamination. Remove the nuts attaching the brake master cylinder to the power booster and carefully pull the brake master cylinder out of the engine compartment. If a new brake master cylinder is being installed, remove the reservoir from the old one and transfer it to the new one. To install the new brake master cylinder, bench bleed it first by attaching bleeder tubes to the outlet ports and filling the reservoir with brake fluid. Slowly push the pistons into the brake master cylinder to expel air, repeating until no more air bubbles are present. Remove the bleed tubes and install plugs in the open ports. Install a new seal into the groove of the brake master cylinder and then mount it over the studs on the power brake booster. Thread the brake line fittings into the brake master cylinder and tighten them securely. Fill the reservoir with fluid and bleed the brake master cylinder and brake system. Finally, test the operation of the brake system before using the vehicle.
