- A:To remove the fuel pump/sending unit assembly, start by relieving the fuel system pressure and disconnecting the cable from the negative battery terminal. Then, remove the fuel tank and carefully tap the locking cam until the tabs align with the recesses to release the assembly. Lift the assembly from the fuel tank, transferring any necessary components to the new fuel pump module assembly. For 1995 and earlier models, remove the strainer from the lower end of the fuel pump and clean or replace it as needed. Disconnect the electrical connector and separate the fuel pump from the assembly. To install, reassemble the fuel pump to the sending unit bracket assembly and insert the assembly back into the fuel tank. Finally, install the fuel tank.Posted by GMPartsGiant Specialist
