    Q:
How to remove and install disc brake pads safely and effectively on Cadillac Fleetwood? Posted by Customer
    A:
To remove and install disc brake pads, avoid inhaling dust from brake surfaces and use a commercially available brake cleaning fluid. Replace disc brake pads in axle sets only. Begin by using a syringe to remove two-thirds of the brake fluid from the master cylinder reservoir, then raise and safely support the vehicle. Remove the wheel and tire assembly, reinstalling two lug nuts to retain the disc brake rotor. Detach the disc brake caliper from the mounting bracket without disconnecting the brake hose, and suspend the caliper with wire from the coil spring. Use a small prybar to disengage the buttons on the outboard disc brake pad from the caliper housing and remove it, followed by the inboard disc brake pad. Inspect the disc brake rotor and machine or replace as necessary. For installation, clean the caliper piston boot with denatured alcohol, then use a C-clamp to bottom the caliper piston into the bore, ensuring not to damage it. After bottoming the piston, use a small tool to lift the inner edge of the boot and press out any trapped air. Install the inboard disc brake pad by snapping the retainer spring into the piston, ensuring it lays flat and does not touch the boot. Next, install the outboard disc brake pad, positioning the wear sensor correctly based on the vehicle model. Reinstall the disc brake caliper, followed by the wheel and tire assembly, and lower the vehicle. Apply the brake pedal several times to position the caliper piston and seat the brake pads, then check the brake fluid level and add as necessary. For inspection, check the disc brake pads every 6000 miles or whenever the wheels are removed, focusing on both ends of the outer pad and the inner pad through the caliper. Replace pads when any lining thickness is worn to within 1/22 in. (0.76mm) of the backing plate or rivet, and note that the outer pad has a wear sensor that produces a warning noise when replacement is necessary.

    Q:
How to remove and install the brake pad on Cadillac Fleetwood? Posted by Customer
    A:
To remove and install the brake components on the 199D-91 Eldorado and Seville, begin by using a syringe to extract one-third of the brake fluid from the master cylinder reservoir, then raise and securely support the vehicle. Remove the wheel and tire assembly, reinstall two lug nuts to hold the disc brake rotor, and detach the disc brake caliper from the rotor and mounting bracket without disconnecting the brake hose, suspending the caliper from the strut. Unsnap the outboard disc brake pad springs from the caliper holes, press in on the edge of the inboard pad to release it, and remove the bushings from the caliper mounting bracket. Extract the two-way check valve from the caliper piston using a small prybar. For installation, use adjustable pliers to bottom the caliper piston in the bore, ensuring the boot lays flat, then lubricate and install new bushings in the mounting bolt holes. Lubricate and install a new two-way check valve into the caliper piston, followed by the inboard disc brake pad, ensuring proper engagement with the retainer and alignment with the piston. Install the outboard pad with the wear sensor at the trailing edge, snap the pad springs into place, and reinstall the caliper. After lowering the vehicle and reattaching the wheel and tire assembly, apply the brake pedal several times to seat the pads and check the brake fluid level, adding as necessary. For the 1992-98 Eldorado and Seville and 1994-98 Deville, repeat the fluid removal process, raise the vehicle, and remove the wheel and tire assembly, reinstalling two lug nuts. Detach the cable support bracket from the caliper without disconnecting the parking brake cable or brake hose, then remove the sleeve bolt and pivot the caliper upward to access the disc brake pads and clips. Use a suitable tool to turn the piston and press out trapped air, ensuring the boot lays flat. Install new pad clips and position the disc brake pads with the wear sensor downward, then pivot the caliper down, compressing the sleeve boot to avoid damage. Tighten the sleeve bolt and cable support bracket, reinstall the wheel and tire assembly, lower the vehicle, apply the brake pedal to seat the pads, and check the brake fluid level, adding as necessary.

    Q:
How to replace brake pads on Chevrolet K1500? Posted by Customer
    A:
Loosen the front wheel lug nuts, raise the front of the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. Apply the parking brake. Remove the wheels. Remove about two-thirds of the fluid from the master cylinder reservoir because, as the pistons are pushed in for clearance to allow the pads to be removed, the fluid will be forced back into the reservoir. Work on one brake assembly at a time. Push the piston back into the bore to provide room for the new brake pads. A C-clamp can be used to accomplish this. Remove the C-clamp. Remove the two caliper mounting bolts. Lift the caliper off the disc and remove the outer pad. Pull the inner pad out of the caliper and remove it. Fasten the caliper out of the way with a piece of wire to prevent damage to the brake hose. Remove the mounting bolt seals, then use a scribe or similar tool to extract the rubber bushings from inside the caliper ears. Clean the caliper and mounting bolts and check them for corrosion and damage. Replace the bolts with new ones if they're significantly corroded or damaged. Inspect the brake disc carefully. If machining is necessary, follow the information to remove the disc. Begin reassembly by installing the new rubber bushings and seals in the caliper. Fill the space between the bushings with silicone grease. Position the inner pad, with the clip, in the caliper so the wear indicator is facing the rear of the caliper. Position the outer pad in the caliper so the tab at the bottom of the pad is engaged in the cutout in the caliper. Hold the caliper in position over the disc, push the mounting bolts through the bushings and thread them into the bracket. Tighten them to the torque listed in the specifications. Install the brake pads on the opposite wheel, then install the wheels and lower the vehicle. Add brake fluid to the reservoir until it's full. Pump the brakes several times to seat the pads against the disc, then check the fluid level again. Check the operation of the brakes before driving the vehicle in traffic. Try to avoid heavy brake applications until the brakes have been applied lightly several times to seat the pads.
