To remove the tie-rod end, start by applying the parking brake and loosening the front wheel lug nuts. Then, raise the front of the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands before removing the wheel. Next, loosen the tie-rod end jam nut and mark the relationship of the tie-rod end to the threaded portion of the tie-rod to ensure the toe-in setting is restored during reassembly. Alternatively, you can count the number of turns it takes to remove the tie-rod from the linkage arm and install the replacement tie-rod with the same amount of turns. After that, loosen the tie-rod end ballstud nut and use a puller to separate the ball stud from the steering knuckle arm. Once the ballstud is loose, use a balljoint puller to remove it and separate the tie-rod end from the steering knuckle arm. To install the tie-rod end, thread it onto the tie-rod to the marked position or counted turns, then insert the tie-rod end ball stud into the steering knuckle arm. Install the nut onto the ball stud and tighten it to the proper torque specifications. Finally, tighten the jam nut securely, install the wheel, lower the vehicle, and tighten the lug nuts to the proper torque specifications. It is recommended to have the front end alignment checked and adjusted if necessary.
