Q:
How do you remove the Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) Sensor for Chevrolet Cobalt,HHR and Saturn ION? Posted by Customer
A:
To remove the 2.0L supercharged/2.2L and 2.4L engines, start by turning the ignition key to the OFF position. Then, disconnect the MAP sensor electrical connector and remove the mounting bolt. The MAP sensor is located on the intake manifold, just behind the throttle body on 2.2L and 2.4L engines. On 2.0L engines, there are two MAP sensors; one at the right end of the intake manifold called the Temperature Manifold Absolute Pressure (TMAP) sensor and another on top of the left end of the supercharger called a Supercharger Intake Pressure (SCIP) sensor. On 2003 and 2004 models, you may need to remove the accelerator/cruise control cable bracket nuts and raise it up slightly to access the MAP sensor. If necessary, remove the throttle body to access the sensor. If the locking clip is blocking access to the sensor, disconnect it by squeezing the clip ends together. Finally, pull out and remove the MAP sensor. For the 2.0L turbocharged engine, start by disconnecting the MAP sensor electrical connector located on top of the intake manifold above the throttle body. Then, remove the sensor mounting screws and the sensor from the intake manifold. To install, check the condition of the grommet if working on a 2004 and earlier model, and replace if necessary. For 2005 and later models, replace the sensor if the seal is damaged. Installation is the reverse of removal.
