Q:
How do I replace the spark plugs for Chevrolet Cobalt,HHR and Saturn ION? Posted by Customer
A:
To replace the spark plugs, start by disconnecting the cable from the negative battery terminal. Then, remove the ignition coils/coil pack. The necessary tools for spark plug replacement include a spark plug socket, various extensions, a gap gauge, and a torque wrench. It is best to purchase the new spark plugs in advance, adjust them to the proper gap, and replace them one at a time. Make sure to choose the correct plug type for your engine. Allow the engine to cool completely before removing the plugs. Check the new plugs for defects and adjust the gaps using a wire-type thickness gauge. Use compressed air to blow away any dirt or debris from the spark plug hole. Use a spark plug socket and ratchet to remove the old plugs. Compare the old plugs to the photos provided to assess the engine's running condition. Install the new plugs, tightening them with a torque wrench or ratchet. Use a length of rubber hose to thread the plugs into place and apply anti-seize compound to the threads. Repeat the procedure for the remaining spark plugs. Finally, reinstall the ignition coils/coil pack.
