Q:
How do I adjust and replace the Park/Neutral Position switch and Back Up Light Switch in Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon? Posted by Customer
A:
The Park/Neutral Position switch, also known as the transmission range switch, is located on the side of the transmission over the manual shaft. It serves as an information sensor for the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and performs functions such as preventing the engine from starting in any gear other than park or neutral, and activating the back-up lights when the shift lever is in reverse. To adjust the switch, loosen the mounting bolts and slightly turn it until the engine only starts in park or neutral, then tighten the bolts. For replacement, disconnect the battery cable, apply the parking brake, and put the shift lever in neutral. Remove the shift cable and electrical connector from the switch, as well as the manual lever. Then, remove the switch retaining bolts and detach it from the transmission. To install a new switch, align the slots on the switch with the notch on the switch body and install it onto the shaft. If using the old switch, align the flats of the manual shaft with the flats of the switch. Install the switch mounting bolts, tighten them to the specified torque, and reinstall the manual lever. Finally, attach the shift cable and reconnect the electrical connectors.

Q:
How does the Park/Lock system work for the 2006 Chevrolet Colorado? Posted by Customer

Q:
What is the location and function of the Park/Neutral Position switch for Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon? Posted by Customer
A:
The Park/Lock system is a safety feature in a car that prevents the shift lever from being moved out of Park unless the brake pedal is depressed. It also prevents the ignition key from being removed unless the shift lever is in the Park position. When the car is started, a solenoid is activated, locking the shift lever in Park. When the brake pedal is pressed, the solenoid is deactivated, allowing the shift lever to be moved into other gears. In the event of an electrical failure, there is a manual override that can be used to shift the transmission out of Park. This involves removing the shift lever trim boot and locating the override lever on the upper right side of the shift lever bracket, then moving it towards the front of the vehicle. If the shift lock control solenoid needs to be replaced, the steering column covers need to be removed and the electrical connector disconnected. The solenoid can then be pried from the column using a flat-bladed screwdriver. Installation is the reverse of removal.
