To remove the steering wheel, start by parking the vehicle with the wheels pointing straight ahead and disconnecting the battery. Disable the airbag system and remove the upper steering column cover. On 2005 models, remove the airbag module by inserting a screwdriver into the corner slots on the back of the steering wheel. On 2006 and later models, turn the steering wheel and insert a rod into the holes to release the airbag module. Disconnect the electrical connectors and remove the airbag module. Note the index mark on the steering wheel hub and shaft, then remove the steering wheel nut and lift the wheel off the shaft. If necessary, disconnect the electrical connector for the control switches and remove the clockspring. When installing the clockspring, ensure the steering shaft is in the 12 o'clock position and the clockspring is centered. Align the index mark on the steering wheel hub with the shaft and ensure the pegs on the clockspring engage properly. Install the steering wheel nut, airbag module, and reconnect the electrical connectors. Finally, enable the airbag system.
