The Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor is a device for monitoring the pressure variations in the intake manifold that occur due to changes in engine load and speed and then converting this into voltage. The PCM gets its information as a varied voltage signal from closed throttle (high vacuum) to wide open throttle (low vacuum). The PCM utilizes the MAP sensor in controlling fuel delivery as well as ignition timing. To swap the MAP sensor, start by disconnecting its electrical connector. This can be achieved by unplugging the electrical connector of map sensor, squeezing together the retainer tabs and removing it, then pulling up on the sensor until it comes out vertically from its mounting flange on top of intake manifold. After removing the MAP sensor, discard the old sealing grommet and install a new one before reinstalling the sensor, following the reverse order of removal. For V6 models, also start by turning the ignition key to OFF and disconnecting the MAP sensor electrical connector. Remove the MAP sensor retaining bolt and then the MAP sensor itself. Discard the old sealing grommet and use a new one for installation, ensuring the retaining bolt is tightened securely during reassembly.

As for the 4-cylinder power units, the MAP sensor is installed in the intake manifold close to the throttle body. First, you have to un-bolt the air intake duct, then you can unplug the electrical connection from the manifold absolute pressure sensor and then un-screw the sensor which is screwed at the top of the intake manifold. Next, that MAP sensor seal needs to be pulled out and put back in, and, as for installation, it is carried out in inverse order to the removal one. In 2004 and later V6 models, the MAP sensor is on top of the throttle body while the 2002 and 2003 V6 models use a MAF sensor instead. Begin by unbolting the engine cover if there is any, you then withdraw the electrical connection of the MAP sensor by pressing on the release button and pulling off the connector. In the next step, unscrew the screw to unravel the connection between sensor and throttle body, old MAP sensor O-ring needs to be taken off and a new O-ring must be placed from where the old one was removed and tighten the MAP sensor screw.
