The CV boots are essential in preventing dirt, water, and other foreign materials from entering and damaging the constant velocity (CV) joints. Since oil and grease tend to wear out the material of the boot, it should be washed using soap and water. The outer CV boot wears out earlier than the inner one because it is constantly moving back-and-forth with the steering action of the front hub; hence, there is a need for regular inspection. Additionally, one should also inspect them for cuts, cracks, or clamps that may have become loose. This includes checking both inner and outer CV boots for leaking lubricant, or any signs of worn clamps such as cracks present in them. There is no difference between them and all-wheel-drive models that have driveaxles at their rear ends as well. Replacements are needed if they have any signs of cracking or if there is any leaked lubricant.
