    Q:
How to remove and reinstall the oil pump while ensuring proper alignment and oil pressure in V6 engine on Chevrolet Astro? Posted by Customer
    A:
Lift the car and drain the oil, then loosen and take out the oil pan and the bolt which connects the pump to the rear main bearing cap, if there is one; in some models, you may have to take out the oil pan baffle before loosening the bolt because it is also used to support the pump. Screw down the pump and with it remove the pump driveshaft, examine two oil pump locator pins that protrude about 0.3cm from the bearing cap and replace them if necessary. Before installing the pump again, it is advised that the oil pump driveshaft retainer is changed, to ensure that the driveshaft sits correctly on the pump shaft. Locate this pump at the engine, ensuring that the slot on the upper end of the driveshaft fits into the tang on the lower end of the distributor shaft because the distributor drives the oil pump and therefore proper fitting of two is critical. Screw in the oil pump mounting bolt to the recommended torque and fit the oil pan. Begin the engine and check that the oil pressure light off or the oil pressure gage shows correct pressure.

    Q:
How to Remove and Install the Oil Pump in four cylinder engine on Chevrolet Astro? Posted by Customer
    A:
Pull off the oil pan, then, it is required to unscrew the two oil pump installation bolts as well as the pick-up tube nut on the main bearing cap bolt. Remove the oil pump and pick-up assembly from the block. If the pump is bad, then the best action is to replace the pump with a new one; when doing a total engine rebuild, always fit a new oil pump and do not consider reusing or reconditioning the old one. For installation, rotate the shaft until the gear tang fits into the slot on the lower end of the oil pump driveshaft allowing the pump to slid over the lower bushing. If it doesn't fit properly then try to regulate the tang in some way so that it fits rightly. Fasten the pump to the block with the mounting bolts and the nut of the tube bracket, till reaching the specified torque. Last, but not the least reinstall the oil pan, put some oil and start the vehicle and look for the signs of leakage.

    Q:
How to remove the oil pan and oil pump on 4.3L V6 engine on Chevrolet Blazer? Posted by Customer
    A:
Remove the oil pan. While supporting the oil pump, remove the pump-to-rear main bearing cap bolt. On some models, the oil pan baffle must be removed first, since it's also held in place by the pump mounting bolt. Lower the pump and remove it along with the pump driveshaft. If a new oil pump is installed, make sure the pump driveshaft is mated with the shaft inside the pump. Position the pump on the engine and make sure the slot in the upper end of the driveshaft is aligned with the tang on the lower end of the distributor shaft. The distributor drives the oil pump, so it is absolutely essential that the components mate properly. Install the mounting bolt and tighten it. Install the oil pan and refill with fresh oil. The remainder of assembly is the reverse of the disassembly procedures.

    Q:
How to remove and install the oil pump on 2.2L four cylinder engine on Chevrolet S10? Posted by Customer
    A:
The oil pan is taken off first before removing and installing the oil pump. Take out the oil pump mounting bolt from the main bearing cap after that. The block should be separated from the oil pump and pick-up assembly. If there is a problem with the latter, replace it with a new one. When doing a complete engine overhaul, it is advisable to use a new oil pump rather than reusing the old one or rebuilding it. The oil pickup tube of an oil pump should be checked for any looseness if it's pressed into the body of the oil pump. It's dangerous to attempt tightening a loose one; instead, replace the entire pump assembly. Put the oil pump in place by turning its shaft to align tang of gear with slot on lower end of oil pump drive shaft. The retainer on lower side of the oil pump drive shaft will enable easy movement of the entire thing over to its position. If not, remove it twisting tang until properly aligned with driveshaft slot in pump. Tighten up this mount using its bolt you earlier detached. Put back your vehicle's engine and start placing some engine before checking if there are any leaks.

    Q:
How to remove and install an oil pump on 4.3L V6 engine on GMC Sierra? Posted by Customer
    A:
Remove the oil pan. While supporting the oil pump, remove the pump-to-rear main bearing cap bolt. Lower the pump and remove it along with the pump driveshaft. If a new oil pump is installed, make sure the pump driveshaft is mated with the shaft inside the pump and a new driveshaft retainer is used. Position the pump over the dowel pins on the rear main cap and make sure the slot in the upper end of the driveshaft is aligned with the tang on the lower end of the oil pump driveshaft. The oil pump driveshaft drives the oil pump, so it is absolutely essential that the components mate properly. Also, note that no gasket is used between the oil pump and the rear main cap. Install the mounting bolt and tighten it to the torque specifications. Install the oil pan and refill the engine with fresh oil. The remainder of assembly is the reverse of the disassembly procedures.
