Buick Rainier Headlight Parts Questions & Answers

  • Q: How do you remove the headlight housing?
A: To remove the headlight housing, begin by opening the hood. Then, pull up the retaining tabs and remove the bulb socket from the housing. Disconnect the electrical connector(s) and remove the headlamp housing. To install, reverse the removal steps by aligning the pins with the panel holes and pushing the retaining tabs down to lock it in place.
  • Q: How to adjust the headlights and fog lights on Chevrolet Trailblazer and Buick Rainier?
A: These models are equipped with composite headlights with adjustment screws for up-and-down movement, but left-and-right movement is not adjustable. To adjust the headlights, a blank wall 25 feet in front of the vehicle and a level floor are needed. Position masking tape on the wall in reference to the vehicle centerline and the centerlines of both headlights. Measure the height of the headlight reference marks from the ground and position a horizontal tape line on the wall at the same height. The adjustment should be made with the vehicle sitting level, the gas tank half-full, and no unusually heavy load in the vehicle. Turn on the low beams and use the adjusting screw to position the high intensity zone two inches below the horizontal line. For fog lights, some models have optional fog lights that can be aimed like headlights. There are no left-and-right adjustments for fog lights. Position tape on a wall 25 feet in front of the vehicle and tape a horizontal line representing the height of the fog lamp centers, as well as another line four inches below that. Use the adjusting screws on the fog lamps to adjust the pattern on the wall so that the top of the fog lamp beam meets the lower line.
