About Satrun Astra

Saturn Astra is a compact or a small family vehicle engineered and manufactured by the German automobile manufacturer Opel, which is the subsidiary of the American group General Motors Company. The first Saturn Astra was introduced in 2007 to replace the Saturn Ion. Due to the lower sales than expected, General Motors announced that the Saturn brand would be discontinued, and so would the Saturn Astra though it had earned a "Good" overall score from Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
The Saturn Astra made its debut at the 2007 Chicago Auto Show and went on sale on 2 January, 2008. It was designed to take the Saturn Ion's place to be the brand's smallest model. Saturn Astra was available in two trim levels: basic Astra XE available only on the 5-door hatchback body style and upmarket Astra XR available in both 3-door and 5-door hatchback. Though owing two trim levels, Saturn Astra was only powered by one engine - the 1.8 L U18XER inline 4-cylinder gasoline engine with variable-valve technology that could produce 138 hp, and this engine was fitted along with either a 5-speed manual transmission or a 4-speed automatic transmission.

Saturn Astra Common Problems & Maintenance Tips

No matter how high quality and shiny your Saturn Astra was when you purchased it, as time passes by, it is inevitable that auto parts in it would wear and tear. For your Saturn Astra's long lifespan, you have the need to know what happens when parts get worn:
First, Check Engine Light stays on. This is an obvious sign to remind people to check the engine, however, many Saturn Astra owners told that it is not that easy because many auto parts could activate the Check Engine Light. In Saturn Astra, besides the illuminated light, the engine performance also reduced as misfiring, backfiring, hard starting or inability to start and complete loss of power when accelerating. Moreover, the engine may overheat often due to leaking coolant or contaminated coolant. And the Astra intake manifold, Astra air filter, Astra cylinder head gasket and Astra fuel pump are often the culprits.
Second, braking system failure. Every driver knows how terrible it would be when the braking system fails to apply while driving. Saturn Astra drivers also have encountered this problem. They described that after a while of driving, leaking brake fluid could be found on the brakes. And when the brake pad wear sensors are activated and the fluid drops below a certain level, the brake warning light would also come on. If you could find corrosion on the Astra brake line and the brakes responded poorly, please make sure if the Astra brake line and Astra brake pad set are in good shape.
Unfortunately, many other auto parts in Saturn Astra are also subject to wear and tear after long-term exposure to natural beat. Electrical auto parts are the first to be impact. Door lock actuator is responsible for locking and unlocking the power door locks when the switches are pressed. Once it goes wrong, your property and your Saturn Astra are in potential danger of being stolen. So, once you hear unusual noises coming from inside the door and the power door locks do not function or behave erratically, please replace the Astra door lock actuator.
