Utilize parts cleaner to eliminate all sludge and dirt from the rocker arms, rocker balls, pushrods, and valve springs, working on one set of components at a time and returning each to its designated location. Employ a buffing wheel to remove carbon deposits from the valves, taking care to maintain their order during cleaning. Ensure the head gasket mating surface is free of carbon deposits without scratching the sealing surface, and thoroughly clean the threads on all cylinder head attaching bolts.
