2001 Chevrolet Tracker Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to remove and inspect the axle shaft and differential components on 4WD 2001 Chevrolet Tracker?
A: Loosen the lug nuts, raise the front of the vehicle, and support it securely on jackstands before removing the front wheel. Drain the differential lubricant, then remove the locking hub. Use snap-ring pliers to take out the driveaxle snap-ring and disconnect the stabilizer bar from the lower arm. Remove the tie-rod ends and caliper bolts, suspending the caliper with a piece of wire. Loosen the steering knuckle balljoint nut without removing it, support the lower arm with a jack, and then remove the balljoint nut. Lower the jack slowly to swing the steering knuckle clear of the lower arm. Pry the driveaxle out of the differential, being cautious not to damage the seal, and then remove the driveaxle from the hub while protecting the axle boots. Unbolt the three driveaxle bolts on the left side and remove the driveaxle, again being careful with the axle boots. The differential side gear shaft can be pried out using the previously mentioned technique. Inspect all parts for damage, warpage, cracks, breakage, and corrosion, replacing any necessary components. Installation follows the reverse order of removal, ensuring all fasteners are tightened to the specified torque values.
