To remove the driveaxle, first loosen the wheel lug nuts, raise the front of the vehicle, and support it securely on jackstands before removing the wheel. Next, take off the splash shield from under the vehicle, then pry off the hub cover using a hammer and chisel if necessary. Remove and discard the driveaxle/hub nut, ensuring the hub does not rotate by bracing a large prybar across two wheel studs or using a screwdriver through the brake caliper window. The hub nut should not be reused, so install a new one when putting the shaft back. Disconnect the wheel speed sensor electrical connector and free the harness from its retainers, then unbolt the brake hose retainer where it joins the metal brake line at the frame. Remove the shock absorber module and the steering knuckle while simultaneously pulling the driveaxle stub shaft out of the hub. If the stub shaft sticks, tap on the end with a brass punch and hammer, or use a puller to push the driveaxle from the hub. Drive the inner end of the driveaxle away from the differential or intermediate shaft using a hammer and brass drift, applying enough force to disengage the retaining ring. For installation, reverse the removal steps, lubricating the splines on the stub shaft with multi-purpose grease before installing a new driveaxle/hub nut and tightening it to the specified torque, along with the suspension fasteners and wheel lug nuts.
