2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove and install the intake manifold in V8 engine on 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer?
A: Before you can take off the intake manifold, you definitely know that you need to detach the cable to the negative terminal of the battery and pinch off the coolant hoses to the throttle body if there is any. After that, unbolt the air filter housing and, for the 6.0L models-the intake manifold cover, and then release the fuel system pressure. Remove the accelerator coupling and if necessary the cable for the operation of the cruise control. Remove the electrical connectors from the fuel injectors, EGR valve, EVAP solenoid, MAP sensor and sensors on the throttle body and then mark them for reconnection. Remove the large wiring harness bracket from the intake and put aside it. Take out the fuel rails and injectors in a single unit if you can, just to be on the safe side, as removing the intake manifold may damage the fuel injectors which should not happen since it is not absolutely necessary to do step b. Remove vacuum hoses concerning the intake manifold or throttle body, including the power brake booster, PCV, as well as the EVAP purge control solenoid, and the coolant hoses bonded to the throttle body. Unbolt EGR valve and pipe, if still connected; disconnect any other connections to the EGR valve; 3/8 inch sockets to loosen the intake manifold bolts gradually in backward direction to a degree that they can be unbolted by hands. If the manifold is jammed then it can be prised open with a view to damaging the gasket sealing faces and this can be done using a pry bar. Remove the heads and block, and the mating surfaces must be clean, and no residues of the old gaskets should remain; however, avoid the use of sharp tools when scraping. This shall be followed by cleaning with a cloth soaked into safety solvent and followed by vacuuming to clear debris. Re(thread) the bolt holes chase with a tap and on the same note blown compressed air to ensure that it is clean. Place the new gaskets under the intake manifold and ensure that the gasket has clicked to the manifold to firmly sit on the in take port holes. Place the manifold gently and sparingly coat the bottom threads of the bolts with medium strength lock mating compound, fit the bolts and torque them to the prescribed sequence and figure without exceeding the limit torque. The following installation steps are the reverse of the removal, and then check the coolant level, and start the engine to look for vacuum leak at the intake manifold gasket.
