    How to Remove and Install Catalytic Converters and Exhaust Manifolds, and Check for Leaks in 3.6L V6 engine on 2007 Pontiac G6?

    To remove the catalytic converters first loosen the cable on the negative terminal on the battery. Lift the car and put it on jackstands where it will not be in any physical contact with other objects. This penetrating oil should be applied on the studs and nuts that fix the catalytic converters to the exhaust manifolds, and should be allowed to soak for as long as possible. Take out the bolts that are used in the catalytic converter, and also unfasten it from exhaust manifolds. When working on the left manifold, if one has to, he or she has to remove the oil dipstick tube and the manifold heat shield. Third, you will need to unbolt the exhaust manifold, some of the bolts at this location are visible from below with others being viewable at the top section for the right (rear) manifold. Remove the exhaust manifolds and, taking into consideration the type of exhaust system, remove the gaskets, if necessary. During installation, one should look for cracks in the manifold and the thread of the bolts to be sure that they are ok. The faces of the manifold and cylinder head require special attention: they should be completely free of carbon deposits and gasket matter; to facilitate cleaning, recourse can be made to gasket scraper, but such work should be done very carefully to avoid damaging the aluminum Cylinder heads. If any of the manifold bolts are sheared then there will be some trueness in the manifold which will need to be machined at a cylinder head reconditioning workshop before fitting. position the manifold over the cylinder head then tighten the mounting bolts to the extent they can be easily removed. During tightening of the manifold bolts torque wrench should be used, starting at the centre and moving out towards the ends of the bolts tightening them to the recommended torque. If required the extended portion of the exhaust manifold gasket should be bent back against the cylinder head. Place an anti-seize compound on the threads of the outer heat shield bolts and install the nuts and tighten to the following torque: The other steps of installation are in the reverse order to the removal steps. When preparing for departure, start the engine and look for and jelly of exhaust leaks.
