To remove the exhaust manifold, one has to first disconnect the connection of the negative terminal of the battery. Then pull the fuel line from the clasp and then pull off the exhaust manifold heat cover. Then, with a socket wrench, unbolt and temporarily relocate the upstream oxygen sensor, lift the car and securely position it on jack stands. Undo the nuts securing the exhaust manifold brace, withdraw the brace and the nuts, then unfasten the nuts securing the exhaust manifold to the cylinder head; the nuts are to be replaced should they be used on this job. For installation clean mating surfaces on the cylinder head, manifold, and on the exhaust pipe using a scraper and solvent to make sure that they are flat and undamaged; if they are warped or damaged they may need to undergo some machining. The new gasket must be fitted on the cylinder head studs then the manifold applied on the cylinder head while tightening of the nuts is done from the center and outward to the standard torque. Join the exhaust pipe to the manifold/catalytic converter assembly and fasten its nuts with the appropriate measure of force. To complete the removal process that was discussed above, reverse the following steps and reconnect the battery: At last conduct the exhaust gas test with the engine running or simply rev and listen for the leaks.
