2008 Cadillac CTS Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the rear crankshaft seal in 3.2L V6 engine on 2008 Cadillac CTS?
A: Only one Crankshaft Seal is located at the rear of the cylinder block, and it is pressed in place. First of all, you have to extract the transmission, as well as the flywheel or the driveplate, depending on what exact car model you have. By applying a screw driver or hook tool you should proceed and remove the seal carefully without causing damage to the cylinder block and main bearing bore or the nose and sealing surface of the crank shaft. However, instead of prying you can drill a hole on each side of the seal and install self-tapping screws to remove the seal. Remove any debris from the sealing surfaces of the engine block, main bearing and crankshaft, wipe it with clean oil. And also it is advisable, grease the circumference of the new seal's lip, which adjoins the crankshaft. Begin fitting the new seal into the cylinder block by applying force on it and once started, use a seal driver or an appropriate suitable socket of the correct size to force the square into the cylinder block until it is flush with the cylinder block and square. Last of all, fit in the flywheel/driveplate after which the completion of the process would be un-installation in reverse.
