2013 Chevrolet Corvette Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove and install an oil pan on 2013 Chevrolet Corvette?
A: Before removing the oil pan, pull the cable off the negative terminal of the battery. Lift the car with jack stands, now drain the engine oil and remove the oil filter, then remove the air filter housing then the air intake resonator. Finally, you need to remove the wiring harness brackets if any that are attached to the oil pan, and also those that are holding the transmission oil cooler lines on the passengers' side and the electrical connector of the oil level sensor. Undo the front exhaust pipes from the motor and remove them as well as removing the starter motor and both the plastic guards on the side of the bell housing. Place a support fixture on the engine, from above and elevate the engine up some using the hydraulic jack, just enough to pull out the nuts securing the engine mount and the nuts of the engine mount to sub frame. Take off the subframe and the transmission to oil pan bolts. If provisioned, unbolt and disconnect the engine oil cooler provides and the master adapter plate from the driver side of the oil pan and the oil tank to oil pan hoses. Last of all, the oil pan bolts can be released and the oil pan lowered down from the engine, where a rubber mallet is used to break the seal of the gasket, and then one must assure all the bolts are removed and has to be careful not to drop the oil pickup tube screen. For installation, drill out the gasket rivets and take out the ruined gasket and then clean the oil pan with some solvent. Thoroughly wash the areas where the oil pan and the engine block are to be mounted and apply RTV sealant round the edges of the front and rear covers. Fit in the new gasket for the oil pan and bolt it in place and while doing this loosen the bolts to the appropriate required length then tighten the bolts with your fingers to avoid damaging the passage of the oil gallery. Verify the oil pan rear face to the transmission bell housing front face clearance and if the measurement is good tighten the bolts in a turn-turn pattern to the recommended torque. Replace the subframe and follow the removal procedure in the reverse order, add low molecular weight Engine Oil and run the engine, check for leaks before driving the car.
