To remove and install the switch, first apply the parking brake securely, block the wheels, and place the transmission selector in NEUTRAL before disconnecting the shift linkage at the transmission. Next, unplug the electrical harness at the switch, remove the switch mounting bolts, and take out the switch. For installation, align the flats of the new switch with those on the shift shaft, fitting it over the shaft and onto the transmission. If the bolt holes do not align, avoid turning the switch to prevent breaking an internal pin; instead, turn the shift shaft until they do. Install the mounting bolts for the switch, tightening them to 22 ft. lbs. (29 Nm), and reconnect the electrical harness. If the pin is broken, turn the shift shaft two positions from PARK to NEUTRAL, insert a 3/32 in. (2mm) drill bit into the service adjustment hole in the switch, and slowly turn the switch until the drill drops into the switch to a depth of 9/64 in. (3mm). Finally, install the switch mounting bolts, tighten them, and remove the drill bit.
