  Q: What should be inspected periodically for damage, loose components, and cracked or worn blade elements?

  A: The wiper blades and arms on the windshield and rear window need regular inspection for damage, loose parts, cracked or worn blade elements. Since road film can accumulate on wiper blades and reduce their efficiency, they should be washed frequently with a mild detergent solution. The wiping action can loosen the nuts, bolts and fasteners so these should be examined and tightened as necessary when the wiper blades are inspected. Any wiper blade insert that has cracks, wear or is warped should be replaced. To do this simply pull the wiper blade/arm assembly away from the glass. Push down on the blade-to-arm connector and move it back toward you to release the blade assembly from the wiper arm and off of the retaining stud. Now use needle-nose pliers to push in/pull out two metal clip then slide old element out slide new one in lock into place with metal clip. Squeeze tabs at end of then slide element out of blade assembly. Compare new element with old one for length, design etc… Slide new element into position; it will automatically click into place at right location. Reinstall blade assembly onto arm, wet windshield or rear window then check to make sure they work properly.
