A: To remove the air conditioning system, start by discharging it. Then, remove the battery and detach the plastic push-pin type fasteners that connect the battery heat shield to the inner fender splash shield and cowl panel. Lift the shield over the battery cable and remove it from the right corner of the engine compartment. Next, remove the bracket nuts that secure the heater tubes to the cowl. Disconnect the compressor hose from the accumulator mounting bolt and remove the line from the accumulator, discarding the old O-ring. Remove the accumulator bracket nuts and move the accumulator out to disconnect the refrigerant line. Cap and plug the open lines immediately to prevent dirt or moisture from entering. Remove and discard the old O-ring, and then remove the accumulator and bracket from the vehicle, along with the bracket fastener if necessary. Finally, pour out the refrigerant oil from the accumulator into a graduated container and measure it. For installation, if a new accumulator is being installed, add new R-134a compatible refrigerant oil to the accumulator, equal to the amount that was drained plus an additional two ounces (60 mil). Otherwise, the installation process is the reverse of the removal steps.
