Remove the disc pads and disconnect the brake flexible hose from the rigid brake line at the support bracket, capping the line to prevent fluid loss. Unbolt and remove the caliper along with the flexible hose, unscrewing the hose from the caliper while noting that the copper sealing gaskets should be replaced upon reconnection. Clean the exterior of the caliper with brake fluid, avoiding gasoline or solvents, and place the assembly on a clean workbench. Drain the fluid from the caliper, then insert a cloth pad between the caliper piston and body, applying air pressure to the fluid inlet hole to free the piston; if unsuccessful, hydraulic fluid pressure may be necessary. With the
Brake Pads removed, reconnect the caliper to the brake line and have an assistant slowly depress the brake pedal to force the piston out, taking care not to damage it. Pry the dust boot out of the caliper bore, then use a small piece of wood or plastic to remove the piston seal from its groove, avoiding metal objects that could cause damage. Remove the caliper bleeder valve and discard the sleeves, bushings, and all rubber parts. Clean the remaining components in brake fluid, allowing them to drain and shaking them to remove excess fluid. Examine the piston for any scoring, nicks, burrs, or loss of plating, replacing parts if defects are found, and check the caliper bore, allowing for light polishing with crocus cloth to remove minor corrosion. Discard any corroded or damaged mounting bolts. When assembling, lubricate the piston bores and seal with clean brake fluid, positioning the seal in the caliper bore groove. Lubricate the piston with clean brake fluid and assemble a new boot in the piston groove with the fold towards the open end. Insert the piston squarely into the caliper bore and apply force to bottom it. Position the dust boot in the caliper counterbore and use a suitable drift to drive it into place, ensuring it is installed evenly below the caliper face. Finally, install the bleeder screw and complete the installation by reversing the removal steps, always using new copper gaskets when connecting the brake hose and bleeding the system of air.
