On 69/70 models, remove the speedometer head by pulling up in the clip securing the drive cable beneath the dash, then grasp the end of the inner cable and pull it from the top of the speedometer conduit; if the cable is severed, the lower portion must be extracted from the bottom of the conduit after detaching it from the transmission. For models from 1971 onward, the procedure is the same: first, you have to removed the speedometer head or instrument cluster then to expose the end of the speedometer drive cable: the inner cable can be gripped with pliers and pulled out of the conduit. The process of installing the speedometer cables entails reversing the removal process, further to which for the models for the years 1968 to 1970, the lower three quarters of the inner cable should be lubricated with a proper gear oil before reinserting the cables, for the subsequent models, the entire length of the cables should be properly lubricated using 'speedometer cable lubricants' as opposed to gears oil. Last but not the least, with a twisting motion, fix the cable into the conduit ending by engaging the end into the pinion gear of the transmission.
