Chevrolet El Camino Turn Signal Switch

The Chevrolet El Camino Turn Signal Switch ensures that drivers communicate lane changes or turns to everyone around them. As a result, on-road safety is boosted. The Turn Signal Switch is located on the steering column and consists of a stick that pivots. Whenever the stalk is pulled up or pushed down, two different electrical circuits are completed. This then allows current to flow to either the left or right indicator lamps to create a flashing light. In most model years, the same lever also houses slide or twist knobs for headlights, wipers, and cruise control, thereby keeping the El Camino cockpit clutter-free while keeping fingers close to the wheel. The earlier versions of the designs featured a mechanical cam inside the column which would physically return the Turn Signal Switch to neutral after a turn. Later versions added integrated electrical contacts which improved durability and smoothed lever feel. However, the basic click cancel action remained identical across generations, proving the design of the Turn Signal Switch to be simple yet reliable. All Chevrolet El Caminos rely on a sturdy Turn Signal Switch, whether they are mounted in a classic 1960s muscle coupe or the final 1987 utility coupe. Choosing the correct switch for a specific El Camino year helps guarantee the proper fit of wiring harness plugs, mounting slots, and self-cancel springs. Highly importantly, they will secure that trademark Chevrolet indicator flash.

Each OEM Chevrolet El Camino Turn Signal Switch we offer is competitively priced and comes with the assurance of the manufacturer's warranty for the part. Furthermore, we guarantee the speedy delivery of your orders right to your doorstep. Our hassle-free return policy is also in place for your peace of mind.

Chevrolet El Camino Turn Signal Switch Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Remove and Replace the Turn Signal Switch on Chevrolet El Camino?
    A:
Disconnect the negative battery cable and remove the steering wheel, then take off the steering column trim cover at the base of the dashboard. For late models, pry out the plastic cover plate at the end of the steering column using a screwdriver in the provided slots. Remove the lock plate from the steering column, which is secured by a snap ring in a groove on the steering shaft; depress the lock plate to relieve pressure on the snap ring and use a special U-shaped tool to assist in its removal. Slide off the cancelling cam, upper bearing preload spring, and thrust washer from the end of the shaft. Remove the turn signal lever attaching screw and take out the turn signal lever from the side of the column. Push in on the hazard warning knob and unscrew it from the threaded shaft, then remove the three mounting screws for the turn signal assembly. Pull the switch wiring connector out of the bracket on the steering column jacket, tape the connector terminals to prevent damage, and feed the wiring connector up through the column support bracket to pull the switch wiring harness and connectors out the top of the steering column. For installation, reverse the removal steps, ensuring the wiring harness is in the protector as it is positioned. Before placing the thrust washer, upper bearing preload spring, and cancelling cam, confirm that the switch is in the neutral position and the warning knob is pulled out, and always use a new snap ring on the shaft for the lock plate.
