To pull out and check the timing chain cover, one has to disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery, evacuate the cooling system, and engine oil and pull out the water pump also. Subsequently, you need to declutch the crankshaft balancer, detach the camshaft position sensor's connector and actuator magnet if any, and then unscrew the bolts of the timing chain cover, while being very careful not to harm the cover itself. For those which do not have camshaft position actuator, use a wrench to slack off camshaft sprocket bolts, rotate the crankshaft until you get the timing marks placed together, then remove camshaft sprocket and chain collectively without any rotation of the crankshaft or the camshaft. Other vehicles have a camshaft position actuator, and the timing marks should be aligned in the same manner; however, the solenoid valve must be removed from the upper sprocket assembly and the actuator assembly as well as the chain ought to be disconnected cautiously. Check the wear and tear of the timing chain tensioner, camshaft and crankshaft sprockets and in case it is necessary, use puller to remove crankshaft sprocket. When installing ensure that; timing chains are replaced together with the sprockets, all surfaces in contact with gasket are cleaned, crank shaft sprocket is aligned and the new chain is put on the cam shaft sprockets such that the timing marks matched. Enable, for the engines with a camshaft position actuator, ensure that the timing chain does not extend to the engine block. Loosen the camshaft sprocket bolt or the actuator valve, apply pressure on the timing chain tensioner to reduce its size and finally fix it, but after that it has to expand again. Replace
Oil Pump in mesh with new gasket, clean sealing that are, apply RTV sealing around of timing chain cover, and loosely bolt the cover to head-timing so that it will align properly before final torquing. Last but not the least, fit a brand new crankshaft oil seal, and follow the reversed order for the rest of the assembly procedures, fill the cooling system and engine oil, replace the oil filter and rev the engine to look for any signs of leakage.
