Take the cable off the negative side of the battery. Safely park your vehicle using the parking brakes, and block your wheels. Slide the shift lever into Neutral. When your vehicle has a manual transmission, start by unscrewing the shift knob. Lift up the front of the shifter boot, and pull the shifter boot off the lever. Take off the switch panel by breaking into it with a trim tool and unhooking the electric connections. Take hold of the cup holder and pull it up to loosen the clip holding the storage compartment in place. Lift it off. Open the plastic trim along the shifter with a special rounded tool. Push out the screws holding the top panel and lift the panel away from the body. Carefully remove the left and right side panels. When ready to remove the front console panel, carefully pull out the trim piece that borders it, then lift the whole main console panel away. Push a trim tool under the cup holder beside the parking brake handle to pop it up from its clips. First, start from the back, lift and take off the top trim piece. Take off the hardware holding the console fast to its back support. Unscrew and take out the fasteners that hold the front console from its mount. Undo the electrical plug for the power outlet at the back of the panel, then take off the rear console. Installation is the reverse of removal. Reconnect the battery.
