Chevrolet HHR Shift Cable

The Chevrolet HHR Shift Cable allows the driver to pick gears with a simple lever in the center console. The effective part transmits that action to the transmission to achieve confident shifts. Inside its protective cover, the flexible core pulls or pushes the transmission manual lever whenever the shifter button is pressed. The Shift Cable replaces bulky metal rods so the interior space remains open for the HHR's bucket seats and center console. The earlier HHR models followed designs from a few decades ago that were based on outside linkage rods and levers. They provided a solid feel but were prone to road grime, wore their bushings, and often developed loose play. The later versions of Chevrolet HHR were greatly suited with a single or twin Shift Cable setup that curved under the floor. This reduced vibrations and gave a smoother engagement. Over time and after endless gear selection with the gear shift lever, the cable may stretch, fray, or even break. This can lead to hard shifting or even finding yourself unable to move out of Park. However, a worn Shift Cable can be replaced quickly and easily in less than an hour with just a few hand tools. Shift Cable will restore your vehicle to its factory-fresh operation and ensure your Chevrolet continues to deliver the same smooth driving experience on every HHR trip.

Each OEM Chevrolet HHR Shift Cable we offer is competitively priced and comes with the assurance of the manufacturer's warranty for the part. Furthermore, we guarantee the speedy delivery of your orders right to your doorstep. Our hassle-free return policy is also in place for your peace of mind.

Chevrolet HHR Shift Cable Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove and install shift cables on Chevrolet HHR?
    A:
Disconnect the negative battery cable. Working inside the passenger compartment, lift up the shifter boot and remove the console. With the parking brake applied, position the shifter in Neutral for Getrag 5-speed models or 4th gear for MU3 5-speed models. Lift up the cable-retaining clips at the front of the shifter assembly and release the cable ends from the shifter. Remove the driver's side knee bolster. Raise the front of the vehicle and securely support it on jackstands. Remove the bolt securing the cables to the underbody, then lower the vehicle. Mark each cable end as to the arm it connects to, then pop the shift cable ends from the transaxle shift-arm, and twist the cables out of their mounting bracket. Pull back the carpeting and pull the cables through the grommet in the floor pan. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure. At the transaxle, install the cables and attach the cable-to-underbody bolt. At the shifter on the floor, push in the U-shaped clip that locks the shifter in Neutral for Getrag 5-speed models. On MU3 5-speeds, lock the shifter in fourth gear with the locking clip on the shifter shaft, about an inch below the knob. After the cables have been attached to the arms on the shifter, the locking tabs can be snapped down at the front of the shifter to secure them. On either transaxle, return the locking clip to its original position. Check for proper shifting of the transaxle.
