Chevrolet K1500 Alternator Brush

Chevrolet K1500 Alternator Brush keeps the truck's alternator charging steady by maintaining electrical contact between the turning rotor slip rings and stationary circuitry within the truck's alternator. Made of conductive carbon, each Alternator Brush rides against the slip rings as the belt-driven rotor spins to allow current to flow so that the rectifier can convert AC to DC and the battery remains topped up. When the brushes wear down, voltage control will be erratic and dash lights may glow since field current cannot pass smoothly. Replacing an Alternator Brush is easier and less expensive than replacing the entire alternator because the rear housing and three small bolts allow the removal of the brush holder and the insertion of new carbon pieces in a matter of minutes. Early K1500 trucks had the same basic brush design as other period Chevrolet vehicles that applied a standalone or internal regulator to regulate field current, while later versions of the K1500 allowed the Powertrain Control Module to control voltage but still relied on the same carbon Alternator Brush for physical contact so the difference between the two is electronic control rather than the brush itself. Keeping the Alternator Brush within factory length specs protects the charging system bearing and diodes from heat stress and maintains reliable power for lights, ignition, and components that are commonly applied in a work-ready Chevrolet pickup.

Each OEM Chevrolet K1500 Alternator Brush we offer is competitively priced and comes with the assurance of the manufacturer's warranty for the part. Furthermore, we guarantee the speedy delivery of your orders right to your doorstep. Our hassle-free return policy is also in place for your peace of mind.

Chevrolet K1500 Alternator Brush Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace Alternator Brush and Voltage Regulator on Chevrolet K1500?
    A:
The procedure for replacing parts in early-model SI type Alternators is as follows, First, remove the alternator from the vehicle. Then, scribe or paint marks on the front and rear end frame housings to aid in reassembly. Next, remove the four through-bolts holding the end frames together and separate them. Remove the bolts holding the stator to the rear end frame and detach the stator. Remove the nuts attaching the diode trio to the rectifier bridge and remove the trio. Remove the screws attaching the resistor, Voltage Regulator, and brush holder to the end frame, and detach the brush holder. Remove the brushes from the brush holder by slipping off the brush retainer and remove the springs. To reinstall, start by installing the brushes in the brush holder, starting with the brush closest to the end frame. Use a paper clip to hold the brushes in place while completing reassembly. The paper clip should not be removed until the end frames are bolted together.
