Correctly removal of the New Process model 241 transfer case requires first cleaning the transfer case with a solvent and a brush after removing it from the vehicle. Some of these external components include, front output flange , indicator light switch , speedometer sensor , poppet screw and many more. For rear extension housing and oil pump housing, remove rear extension housing, bearing retainer snap-ring, pump retainer housing, retainer snap-ring, speedometer tone wheel and several others. Separating the case halves necessitates inserting screwdrivers into slots at the ends of the case and prying them apart while being careful not to damage the oil pump in the rear case half. One must also remove internal components like synchronizer hub, drive sprocket, range shift hub, shift lever and several bearings. Therefore during reassembly it is essential to replace proper bearing and seal assembling synchronizer components installing gears and shafts securing case halves with bolts. Careful torque specifications along with thread locking compounds are used throughout the process to ensure a secure transfer case assembly.
