Chevrolet Metro A/C Accumulator Parts Questions & Answers

  • Q: How to remove and install the receiver/drier in a Chevrolet Metro?
A: The A/C Accumulator, acting as a reservoir and filter for the refrigerant, is located either between the grille and Radiator on the driver's side or adjacent to the timing belt end of the engine. If necessary, remove the grille for access. Detach the two refrigerant lines from the A/C Accumulator. Immediately cap the open fittings to prevent the entry of dirt and moisture. Unbolt the A/C Accumulator and lift it out of the vehicle. Install new O-rings (if equipped) on the lines and lubricate them with clean refrigerant oil. Installation is the reverse of removal. Note: Do not remove the sealing caps until you're ready to reconnect the lines. Do not mistake the inlet (marked IN) and the outlet (marked OUT) connections. If a new A/C Accumulator is installed, add 0.4 US fluid ounces (10 cc's) of refrigerant oil to the system. Have the system evacuated, charged, and leak tested by the shop that discharged it.
